Inside painted snuff bottle - (3257)
[3257]

The scenes on this snuff bottle are absolutely fabulous. They were most probably painted by a master of the Hebei (Ji) School. The bottle is signed by Xiang Jun (相君) and dated 1996 but we could not find any details about our painter yet. The stopper of this snuff bottle is made of agate. The well-known Oriental art magazine ‘Arts of Asia’ devoted an article to the Hebei School in their July-August edition of 2001. We acquired our bottle from the Chinese Arts and Crafts shop in Wanchai, Hong Kong, in February 1997. Inside painting on glass is a difficult process as it has to be done in reverse order. It is done with a long, thin and fine, bent brush. Height 7.5 cm. Width 4.5 cm. Depth 2.1 cm.
