Cigarette box dating from around 1900. Marked inside with the initials 'WH' for 'Wang Hing', the prolific silversmith from Hong Kong. On the lid is a depiction of a landscape with figures at leisurely pursuits. A boy is cooking water on a stove in the foreground while two gentlemen are drinking tea at a table. Another boy seems to be holding a small yixing teapot in his hands. Interesting are the two men lying on a canopied bed. One is holding an opium pipe over an opium lamp. Their shoes are in front of the bed. Depiction of opium smokers are quite rare. The back side of the cigarette box is embossed with birds in a bamboo grove. The inside is gilt. The box was added to the collection in Hong Kong in 1992. Length 8.5 cm. Width 6 cm. Depth 3 cm.
