Collar clasp - Lotus, plum and osmanthus – (4573)

Small jade collar clasp which was used to close the high collar of a ladies dress. It is decorated with a Lotus blossom (Continuous Harmony), an Osmanthus flower (Distinguished sons) and a Plum flower which has five petals representing the Five Blessings, Old age, Wealth, Health, Love of virtue and a Peaceful death. The clasp dates from the Ming dynasty (1368 – 1644 AD) and was previously in the possession of Rudolph Voll (1911-2009) who acquired it in the 1970’s in Hong Kong.
