Silk money purse with very fine embroidery in ‘Peking’ stitch. It is decorated with auspicious symbols such as a Chime ‘qing’ (磬) which is a pun for ‘Celebrate’ and ‘Auspicious Happiness’, a Flute (Longevity), a fan (Longevity and Goodness), a zither called Qin (Instrument of Scholars) in a brocade cover, a Fly whisk (Whisking away Problems), a Cauldron ‘Ding’ (Must) and a Book (Symbol of a Scholar). The purse is almost like new and was probably never used. It still has its original string which closes the purse and it dates from the end of the Qing period (1644 – 1912). Length 14.8 cm. Width 8.7 cm.
