Silver collar clasp – Plum flowers - (4958)

Small silver clasp which once closed the high (choker) collar of a ladies’ dress. It is not hallmarked and made of a low-grade silver. What looks like only one plum flower recognizable by its five petals are in fact five interlocking flowers. The five petals of the plum flower represent the Five Gods of Good Luck. The plum tree is a symbol of Longevity and the coin in the centre means money so the combination of the two wishes their owner a Long Life and Wealth. The collar dates from the Qing period (1644 – 1912). Length 3.8 cm. Width 2.0 cm. Thickness 0.26 cm.
