Silk pin cushion in the shape of a boy lying on his belly. The head of the boy forms the cushion and the body serves as a space to store embroidery items. This can be closed with a ribbon. In Chinese culture it was a disaster when no son was born to carry on the family name. Depictions of boys were said to ensure the arrival of a son and the boy motif was therefore used on many utensils. This cute item only suffers from slight discoloration and is still in excellent condition despite its age. It dates from the end of the Qing period (1644 – 1912). Length 12 cm. Width 9 cm.
