Thread spool – Bats and Shou characters - (3070-3)

Lacquered double wooden spool decorated on both sides with two bats hovering over a ‘Shou’ symbol. and two coins on a string. The bats represent ‘Blessings’, the coins symbolize ‘Wealth’ and the ‘Shou’ character stands for ‘Longevity’. The spool was used for winding up different colors of silk thread which were used for embroidery. It dates from the late Qing period (1644 – 1912). Length 17 cm. Width 6.5 cm. Thickness 1.9 cm.
