Spool made from hardwood and decorated a lotus pod and leaf on one side and a Ruyi scepter on the other. The lotus pod with its many seeds symbolizes ‘Fertility’. The scepter bears a ‘Swastika’ symbol which is a pun for ‘Ten thousand’ or ‘Infinity’. The combination with the wish-granting scepter ‘Ruyi’ (As you wish) means ’May you have anything you wish for and have many children. Old thread is still tied around the spool and a needle is also present. As a result of the hard material used, the spool is still in excellent in good condition. It dates from the end of the Qing period (1644 – 1912). Length 15.5 cm. Width 5.6 cm.
