Gold, black and silver lacquered wooden spool decorated with a peony blossom on one side and a man dressed as an actor on the other side. The peony is the flower of ‘Wealth and Honor’. With ‘Honor’ a high official position is meant. Is the man perhaps Cao Guojiu, who is the patron saint of actors? The spool has been used but is still in good condition. It dates from the end of the Qing period (1644 – 1912). Length 15.5 cm. Width 4 cm. Thickness 1.4 cm.
