Pair of silk lotus shoes embroidered with chrysanthemums (juhua) and peonies (mudan) which together form a rebus ‘changshou fugui’ (May you enjoy Long life, Wealth and Honor). Also depicted are lotus flowers which symbolize ‘Continuous Harmony in Marriage’. The shoes have been used but are still in wonderful condition. They date from the late Qing period (1644 – 1912).
