Belt clasp with the laughing twins - (7936)
[7936]

Double belt clasp made of a very light celadon jade. It is decorated with the 'Laughing twins or He He Erxian' who are the Gods of Peace and Harmony. One twin is named Shi De (拾得) and he holds a lotus flower. The other twin is Han Shan (寒山) who holds a round box. They bestow blessings on marriages and were therefore most probably meant as a wedding gift for a wealthy lady. In the centre is a 'shou' symbol (longevity). Interesting is that both parts slightly differ in color but were without a doubt made at the same time. The clasp dates from the middle of the Qing period (1644 - 1912) and came in 2013 from the Rudolph Voll collection in California. Width 7.4 cm. Height 5.7 cm. Depth 0.41 cm. Weight 26.0 grams.
