Amulet with the Eight Trigrams and a Bat – (9209)

Silver amulet decorated on both sides with the Eight Trigrams (See Quick Find 4139) and an upside-down bat which symbolizes ‘Blessings have arrived’. The centre is shaped as two fishes which symbolize Abundance. At the same time they form a ‘Yin Yang’ symbol which represents opposite forces that are actually complementary. Inside the Pa kua they form a balance in Feng shui which is a Chinese philosophical system of harmonizing everyone with the surrounding environment. The rim is decorated with a stylized cloud-pattern which symbolizes ‘Good Fortune’. The amulet dates from the end of the Qing period (1644 – 1912) or early Republic period (1912 -1947). Total length including chain 31 cm. Size of the amulet: Height 5.5 cm. Width 4.5 cm. Depth 0.4 cm.
