[3249]

Silver grooming set with two intermediate emblems. The top one is an ‘Endless Knot’ which is one of the ‘Eight Buddhist Emblems’ symbolizing Happiness and a Long life. The flower basket symbolizes Longevity and Abundance. The Fungus of Immortality (Lingzhi) and rocks, both symbols of Longevity, are depicted in the flower basket. Two partly enameled bells are shaped like pomegranates which with their many seeds symbolize a wish for many children. The utensils consist of two picks, a pair of tweezers, an ear scoop and a fork. One of the picks may not be original. The set dates from the end of the Qing period (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Total length 34 cm.
