Silver grooming set decorated with two ornaments. The top one comes in the shape of a boat with four people. A boat (chuan) symbolizes the wish to pass one’s rank from one generation to the other. Two small bells in the shape of pomegranates (Much offspring) dangle from the boat. The other ornament is shaped as a basket (Longevity & Abundance) with a small boy (Many sons) hanging over a peony blossom (Wealth & Honor). There are three utensil, an ear scoop, a toothpick and a pair of tweezers. The set dates from the late Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Total length 36 cm.
