Short silver hairpin with a teardrop-shaped green glass finial. The droplet is supposed to resemble Burmese jadeite or ‘Fei Tsui’, also called ‘Imperial jade’ which is a very expensive material especially in this deep green color. But not everyone could afford ‘Fei Tsui’ and Chinese artisans were very good in making glass copies which could hardly be distinguished from the real thing. The hairpin dates from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Length 10.4 cm. Diameter of the droplet 1.0 cm.
