Hairpin with a butterfly embracing plum blossoms – (0503)

Silver spoon-shaped hairpin which is decorated in detail with butterflies and plum flowers. Plum flowers represent the Five Blessings (see 4093) whereas butterflies symbolize Blessings & Happiness. The hairpin has a three character mark which reads Chen Heng Sheng (陈恒生) which is presumably the name of the silversmith but might also be the retailer. It dates from the end of the Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Length 7.4 cm. Width 1.0 cm. Depth 0.2 cm.
