Three-pronged silver hairpin decorated with a jade butterfly. The jade is so-called Hetian jade which comes from a city of the same name in the southern part of the Uyghur Autonomous Region of Xinjiang in northwest China. The butterfly is a symbol of ‘Blessings & Happiness’. The hairpin dates from the late Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912). Total length 11.3 cm. Butterfly width 3.1 cm.
