Gilt silver hat ornament decorated with a Butterfly (Blessings & Happiness) with a Peach (Longevity) in its mouth and two Melons (Fertility) above. Also depicted is an Osmanthus flower (Distinguished sons). The Butterfly is hovering through Clouds which symbolize the granting of all wishes. Small bells in the shape of auspicious fruits dangle from chains. The ornament was originally attached to the back of a child’s hat. It dates from the late Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Width 6.7 cm. Height without chains 4.9 cm. Depth 0.8 cm.
