Gilt silver hat ornament in the shape of a small crab on a large lotus leaf. The crab symbolizes Harmony just like the lotus leaf. The lotus flower represents Marriage in addition to Purity and the seedpod symbolizes Fertility. The hat ornament was originally attached to the back of a hat. Four little bells in the shape of auspicious fruits are attached to it. One has been replaced. The ornament dates from the late Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912). Height including chains 7.5 cm. Width 5.6 cm.
