Man on animal – (6014)
[6014]

Silver hat ornament depicting a pot-bellied man with a beard. He is holding an object in his hand which may be a ‘Ruyi scepter’. A Ruyi or wishing wand symbolizes ‘Everything you wish for’. He is sitting on a strange and unknown creature. Its skin shows the small circles often associated with a deer but it has claws instead of hooves which also rules out a ‘Qilin’, a mythological creature. The ornament dates from the late Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912) or early Republic Period (1912 - 1947). Height 4.4 cm. Width 2.5 cm. Depth 1.1 cm.
