Gilt silver hat ornament of a smiling person with a sword on his back. He is surrounded by cloud trails which identify him as a deity. The fact that he has a sword on his back reveals that he is Lu Dongbin, one of the Eight Immortals, and one of a set of eight hat ornaments. These were usually sewn on the front of children’s hats as amulets. This hat ornament dates from the late Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912). Height 3.8 cm. Width 1.4 cm. Depth 1.5 cm.
