Immortals Li Tieguai and Zhongli Quan – (8194)
[8194]

We are not convinced that these hat ornaments are made of silver but we assume they are. They depict two of the Eight Immortals, Li Tieguai with his bottle gourd and Zhongli Quan with his fan. These small hollow items were sewn to the front of children’s hats as a protection against evil spirits. For Eight Immortals see Quick Find 6278 and for a child’s hat 3325. The hat ornaments date from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Height 3.5 cm. Width 1.5 cm.
