Character Xi – (8827)
[8827]

We have the impression that the artisan tried to create an image of a coral branch in the shape of this embossed silver character Xi (禧) which means Happiness. Coral is one of the Eight Treasures and a symbol of High Rank. The hat ornament is embellished with Plum (Five Blessings) and Osmanthus (Distinguished sons) blossoms as well as with a small flower or fruit which we have not yet been able to identify. It dates from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Height 3.9 cm. Width 3.7 cm. Depth 0.2 cm.
