God of Longevity, a boy and a deer – (8846)

Embossed gilt silver hat ornament in the shape of the God of Longevity, Shou Lao, riding a deer. Both are symbols of a Long Life. A boy stands behind the deer. Shou Lao is often surrounded by children and this ornament once graced the front of a child’s hat. For a child’s hat with Shou Lao see Quick Find 3325. The ornament is marked but we can only read the last two characters Bao Qing (寳慶). It dates from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Height 3.5 cm. Width 2.5 cm. Depth 0.2 cm.
