Silver necklace and lock decorated on one side with a Lotus flower (Continuous Harmony) and seedpod (Fertility). On the other side of the lock are four Chinese characters forming the expression ‘Chang Ming Fu Gui’ (长命富贵) which means Long Life and Prosperity. An Osmanthus flower adds a wish for Distinguished sons. The two poppy seedpods on the sides symbolize Beauty and Success. The lock is marked Bao Ju (宝聚) who may have been the silversmith or the retailer. The lock dates from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Total length 32 cm.
