Apron chain with Plum blossoms and a Butterfly – (0535)

Silver neck chain and attachment hooks which are decorated with Plum blossoms and a Butterfly. The five petals of a Plum blossom symbolize the Five Blessings, Old age, Health, Wealth, Love of Virtue and a Peaceful death. The Butterfly symbolizes Blessings and Joy. The links of the chain are also shaped as Plum blossoms. The button attachments at the ends of the chain have hooks which went into buttonholes at the top op the apron. Aprons started to be popular during the Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1912) and they remained fashionable in later centuries. The silver buttons are hallmarked with two names Long He Xing (龙合興) en Bian Yin (边银). The chain which is of a very good quality dates from the end of the Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Chain: Length 50 cm. Width 1.4 cm. Depth 0.3 cm. Hooks: Diameter 2.1 cm. Depth 0.7 cm. Total weight 61.5 grams.
