Silver scent box or ‘vinaigrette’ which was worn from the belt. A piece of cloth drenched in perfume was inserted in the box and helped against unpleasant smells. The scent box is decorated with a Crane and a Peach on one side which both symbolize Longevity. The other side is decorated with Peaches (Longevity) too and a Magpie (Joy) . The narrow sides are decorated with Osmanthus flowers (Distinguished sons). The box dates from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) or early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Length 4.4 cm. Width 2.1 cm. Depth 1.1 cm.
