Pair of silver embossed hook and eye garment fasteners (buttons) in the shape of Butterflies (Blessings & Happiness). There are slight differences between hooks and eyes but we still believe that they belong together. The ‘hooks’ are also embossed with five-petaled Plum flowers representing the Five Blessings, Old Age, Wealth, Health, Love of Virtue and a Peaceful death as well as with Coins (Wealth) and two unknown flowers. The ‘eyes’ are in addition decorated with Cymbidium flowers (Friendship & Grandchildren). The garment fasteners date from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Width 2.8 cm. Height 2.4 cm. Depth 0.15 cm.
