Silver belt ornament with a hook in the shape of a Ruyi scepter which symbolizes ‘Everything you wish for will come true’. Attached to the scepter are a Men’s and a Women’s shoe which symbolize a ‘Harmonious Marriage’, a Peach (Long life) and a seal (Power and High Status). The seal depicts the characters ‘Tian Zi Men Sheng’ (天子门生) which means ‘The emperor selects the First Candidate’ (of the Civil Service Exams). On the bottom of the seal is the character ‘Yin’ (印) which means ‘Stamped’. The ornament dates from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period. Length 11 cm.
