Simple silver moustache comb. In the old days, almost every adult Chinese gentleman used to have a moustache and moustache combs were very popular. This one is decorated with flowers that have five petals. These could be Plum flowers although the shape is different from the usual depiction. The five petals of a Plum blossom symbolize the Five Blessings, Old age, Health, Wealth, Love of Virtue and a Peaceful death. The comb dates from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Total length including chain 12 cm. Comb length 3.3 cm. Width 2.1 cm. Depth 0.4 cm.
