Silver pendant in the shape of a boy riding a lion. A depiction of a baby Boy implies the wish for many sons and the Lion symbolizes a wish for a High Government Position. In Chinese culture the absence of sons was a disaster. Wearing a small charm in the shape of a baby boy was supposed to ensure the arrival of a son. The pendant dates from the late Qing period (1644 – 1912), Height 3.5 cm. Width 3.5 cm. Depth 1.1 cm.
