Official and boy - (8706)
[8706]

An official recognizable by his headgear and a boy holding an unknown object are used for this ornament which once formed part of a piece of furniture or a bed. The combination of an official and a boy leads to the rebus ‘Leading one’s son to court’ (daizi shangchao) which expresses the hope that the son may become a high official just like his father. This carving is of a lesser quality than some of the other items in the collection and we believe that it dates from the Republic period (1912 – 1947). Height 11.5 cm. Width 10.1 cm. Depth 2.1 cm.
