Lacquered wooden statue of ' Cai Shen', the Gold of Wealth to whom people would pray for prosperity. He holds a staff in his right hand and a gold bar in his left. When the wood carver had finished with a statue, stucco was applied to depict fine details such as the decoration of his gown. Lacquer was applied afterwards to protect the stucco. A longevity character adorns the lower part of Cai Shen's clothing and dragons decorate his chest and knees. He is sitting on a throne with dragon headed arm rests. The statue dates from the beginning of the 19th century. Height 31 cm. Width 17 cm. Depth 14.5 cm.
