He He Erxian - (8085)
[8085]

One of the top pieces of jade in the Lowlands collection is this carving made of pure white mutton fat jade. The carving is stunning. It depicts the 'Heavenly Twins' (Hehe Erxian). One twin is named Shi De (拾得) who holds a lotus in one hand. The other twin is Han Shan (寒山) who holds a round box. They symbolize Harmony and Cheerfulness and bestow blessings upon marriages. There is little doubt that this carving was meant as such. It dates from the Qianlong period (1736 - 1795) and was acquired in Geneva, Switzerland, from antiques dealer mr Lewin of the Jade Company in 1980. Height 5.5 cm. Width 5.1 cm. Depth 1.1 cm. Weight 57.4 grams.
