Carving made of a greyish green type of jade. It depicts Su Wu, a Chinese diplomat and statesman who lived from 140 - 60 BC. The emperor sent him on a mission to the West where he, despite being captured and being held captive for nineteen years, remained faithful to his mission. He served his captors by herding their sheep for many years, before managing to escape and to return home. In this carving Su Wu is seen herding his sheep. The back side shows a boy and a buffalo in a mountainous landscape. The carving dates from around 1960 and entered the Lowlands-collection from Shanghai in 2012. Height 16 cm. Width 13 cm. Depth 7 cm.
