Circus elephant – (4562)

The elephant apparently belongs to a circus as it is wearing a blanket on its back. With its trunk the elephant clutches a ball which may have been used during its performance in the circus. The blanket is decorated with chrysanthemum flowers. In China the chrysanthemum symbolizes longevity because of its health-giving properties. The signature on the bottom reads Songshan (松山) or Songzan in Japanese. Length 4.4 cm. Depth 2.2 cm. Height 3.7 cm.
