Shou Lao also called Shouxing is one of the three Chinese Star Deities, Fu (prosperity), Lu (status) and Shou (longevity). He is here depicted embracing a huge Peach, also a symbol of Longevity, with his right arm and a scroll in his left. The carving of Shou Lao’s friendly face is very well done. This large netsuke was carved by Hong Kong artist Wangshan (旺山) whose name is inscribed on the bottom. Height 3.8 cm. Width 5.0 cm. Depth 4.2 cm.
