Amusing carving of a monkey. It is sitting on a log and holds a peach in one hand and a branch in the other. The monkey and the peach together are auspicious symbols which relate to Longevity. It was the monkey king Sun Wukong who stole the Peach of Immortality from the garden of the queen mother of the West. The small object therefore wishes its owner a long life. It was created in great detail by a master carver called Zheng Zhi (正直) whose signature is on the bottom. Height 5.3 cm. Width 4.1 cm. Depth 3.9 cm.
