Modern white Cloisonné pot with a lid decorated with a Plum tree and a bird, presumably a Magpie. This is a popular motif in China and represents the saying 'May your joy reach as high as your eyebrows (Xishang meishao)'. The magpie (xique) is a bird of joy and the plum (mei) is a pun for 'eyebrows' while the top of the plum tree (mei shao) is a pun for 'top of one's eyebrows'. Apart from this, the Plum flower has five petals which symbolize the Five Blessings, Old age, Health, Wealth, Love of Virtue and a Peaceful death. The opening of the lid is surrounded by Ruyi symbols which express the wish ‘Everything you wish for will come true’. The interior of the pot and lid as well as the bottom are glazed in blue. The pot was acquired in 1970 and also dates from that period. Height without stand 14 cm. Diameter pot 12 cm. Diameter base 5.6 cm.
