Bamboo bird cage decorated with carved panels depicting auspicious symbols such as Pine Trees (Longevity), Osmanthus flowers (Distinguished sons), Chrysanthemum flowers (Longevity), Cranes (Immortality and High Rank) as well as a Phoenix and a Dragon (Union of man and woman). A Dragon (Fertility) curls itself around the brass hook. Inside is a set of porcelain bird feeders which are embellished with poems. The bird cage dates from the late Qing period (1644–1912). Height including hook 60 cm. Diameter 33.5 cm. Height excluding top and hook 38.5 cm.
