Bronze statue of Venugopal a Hindu deity who is two Gods, Krishna and Vishnu, in one form. He has a conch shell in his upper left hand and a discuss weapon, considered to be the most powerful weapon according to Hindu Religion in his upper right hand. The other two hands once held a flute. The conch and discuss are attributes of Vishnu and the flute belongs to Krishna. As Krishna he is standing in a characteristically relaxed pose, playing the flute with one leg bent in front of the other. When we acquired this bronze it was completely covered in a thick layer of black paint. When it was cleaned a wonderful patina appeared. The statue was made in Southern India and dates from the 17th century. Height 16.2 cm. Width 7.5 cm. Depth 5.1 cm.
