Bronze opium weight in the shape of a βToeβ, a creature which looks like one of the stone lions which guard the entrances to temples throughout Burma, but in fact is not. The toe is a fabulous animal which has the face of a lion, horns, and the hooves and tail of a horse. This one is decorated with sprigs of foliage curling from a grinning mouth. The weight has a good patina and shows traces of use. It dates from the late 17th century. Height 4 cm. Weight 124 grams. This item has been sold to another collector.
