Brightly painted wooden carving of an Asante executioner who looks at the head of his victim. The knife thrust through the cheeks of the victim prevented his invoking a curse on the king. The result is a rather gruesome statue but we could not resist acquiring it. It was carved from a solid block of wood and painted in great detail. The only separately added part is the knife through the cheeks. The colon dates from the late 1980’s. Ghana. Height 31 cm. Length 17 cm. Width 9 cm.
