A chief holds a large sword in one hand and an egg in the other The sword expresses power and authority and the egg refers to a famous Ghanaian proverb ‘Power is like an egg, when held too tightly, it may break. When held loosely it may fall’. The chief (Ghanaian king) wears a covered basket on his head with a piece of cloth on top. This also has a symbolic meaning as we were told when we acquired this colon in Ghana in 1998 but unfortunately we forgot. The colon was acquired in Ghana and dates from around 1995. Height 33.5 cm. Width 13 cm. Depth 10.5 cm.
