Hunter with his foot on a turtle – (7736)
[7736]

This colon shows a hunter with a whitened face who puts one foot on a tortoise. A snail also forms part of this scene. We believe that that this colon portrays the Ghanaian proverb ‘If the tortoise and the snail were the only animals in the forest, you’d never hear a gun’. The whitened face of the hunter must also be symbolic but we have not yet been able what the idea behind it is. This colon is made of a solid block of wood and it was acquired in Ghana in 1998. It dates from around 1970. Height 64 cm. Width 19 cm. Depth 25 cm.
