Hausa drummer – (5095)

Brightly painted wooden carving of a Hausa drummer. He has tribal scars on his cheeks and wears a shirt with ‘Gye Nyame’ (except for God) decoration which is unique to Ghana and symbolizes the supremacy of the Lord. The colon is carved from a solid block of hardwood which is quite unusual as most colons are carved from softer woods. The drummer is depicted and painted in great detail. The colon dates from the late 1980’s. Ghana. Height 61 cm. Width 18 cm. Depth 17 cm.
