Gold weight shaped like a roosting bird – (2734)

Akan bronze or brass gold weight in the shape of a bird with a long beak sitting on a perch. We believe that it represents the wild bird from Akatakyie (Komenda) in Ghana (Cf. Akan gold weights in the Berne Historical Museum by Charlotte von Graffenried). The weight was presented to us as a farewell present by a good friend in Ghana who owned a large collection of gold weights. Most probably late 19th century. Height 5.1 cm. Width 2.7 cm. Depth 1.3 cm. Weight 13.9 grams.
