Napkin ring produced around 1860 for the export market. On the inside is a lombardic 'H' which stands for 'Hoaching' who was well known for being one of the finest silversmith's in Canton on Club Street, Honan Island from about 1850 to 1870. This particular napkin ring has an unadorned shield cartouche for a monogram. The rest of the outside area contains a variety of figures in various pursuits such as peering out of waterway structures on stilts, carrying opened and closed umbrellas, hauling water buckets balanced across the shoulders as well as boating on sampans. Diameter 4.7 cm. Height 3.4 cm.
