Pigsty with a latrine – (0302)

Green glazed pottery miniature model of a pigsty. The little house, accessible by a long staircase, is in fact a latrine and the ‘droppings’ would fall down into the pigsty. Such miniature models were meant to be used during the ‘afterlife’. It dates from the Eastern Han period (25 – 220AD) when models of pigsties were customary as tomb gifts. Height 18 cm. Length 28 cm. Width 22 cm. Diameter bottom 22 cm. THIS ITEM WAS SOLD AT AUCTION IN 2022.
