[4334]

The details of this small hand-carved object are very well done. Eight Immortals are pursuing different activities on board a small boat. The Eight Immortals are a group of legendary saints in Chinese mythology. Their power can bestow life or destroy evil and they were and still are very popular in China. This miniature object which also features a pine tree, symbol of Longevity, was hand-carved from the kernel of a Chinese Gânlan fruit, a hard material. The workmanship is of very good quality but the item which has a great patina is not signed. It most probably dates from the latter part of the 20th century. Length 3.6 cm. Width 1.6 cm.
